Back in the heydey of racing at Hastings Park (which was called Exhibition Park back then), there was only one trifecta bet on the entire card (and no superfecta at all)... the famed "Triactor" of the 10th race, where every punter west of the Rockies would try to use to get even on the day. I clearly recall those triactor pools exceeding a quarter million dollars, which is more than what the local handle is these days for an entire daily card.
Oh, that seductive little wager. And of course, since it was the last kick at the can for the day, you'd try to maximize every penny you had left in your pocket by making your ticket as absolutely "powerful" as possible, and not leave out any horses where they could hurt you.
That wasn't an easy thing. How do you construct a ticket to maximize your chances when you have $17 left? You can do a couple of $6 keys and then some weird $5 part-wheel, but then you're leaving gaps and let me tell you from experience, it's very easy to be "OHHH SO CLOSE" to hitting it but missing it by just a bit because the horse you needed in 2nd just got nosed out and since you didn't have that combo, now you have zero. If only you'd have known how to structure the ticket to take advantage of it….
Have you ever wondered what a 1,2,3 with 2,3,4 with 3,5,7 trifecta costs? It's difficult to do in your head because of the overlaps. Fear not, the Exotic Wager Calculator will do it for you. As it turns out, it costs $17. I bet if I'd had this tool years ago, I woulda made a fortune. I shoulda written it years earlier... imagine how useful it'd coulda been! If I had a nickel for every "woulda, coulda, shoulda" triactor miss I've ever had... well, I'd never need to hit another one.
To help avoid this from ever happening again (ha ha!!) I wrote a program in 1998 -- an exotic wager calculator, which I made available to the world as "FreeWare". In 2006, version 2.0 was released that supports a number of features that people had been asking for. I plan on some more future upgrades as I didn’t get around to all of them this time.
The easiest thing to do is right-click on the link below and then select “Save As” and click on Desktop. It’ll install an icon right on your desktop and you’ll then have access to the calculator whenever you want. If you want to uninstall it, just delete the icon. No directories or Registry entries to worry about.
If you happen to find an older version of it available elsewhere, kindly notify whoever is in charge that the best place to get it is right here, especially as I plan to make upgrades to it more often than the 8 years it took the first time.
Anyway, there it is. Enjoy it and I hope it brings you success.
